Hi Folks,
I have a 2003 WJ with 110K miles on it. Just been in garage for a new water pump, had been taken out on a test run and ran fine. I picked it up 30 Min's later, it started fine, drove 500mtrs down road and all gauges went to zero, check engine light came on and engine wouldn't rev above idle. Engine will turn off and start again but displays same issues. Did the usual of turning ignition on and off several times, disconnecting battery etc to no avail. All obvious earths and connections  etc been checked.
A variety of faults are showing. All P codes and these are as follows....
0190  Fuel pressure
2128    Pedal sensor
2125   Pedal sensor
0253   Boost pressure
1608   Analogue digital converter
0155   Engine coolant temperature
1605    System

When you start engine is starts and gauges show up correctly, then check engine light comes on and all gauges return to zero and stay there. However in test mode the gauges do their normal thing. When the check engine light comes on the electric seat function to move backwards or forwards stops for some reason. Otherwise all we can get out of engine is idle.

Anyone any ideas of whats going on? Anyone experienced this before, and does anyone know if there are any common feed or earths that's relate to these fault codes? Or it as simple as needing the battery replaced because of low voltage which I did read some of on the forums. Really appreciate any thoughts on this as the car has been in the garage now for nearly 2 weeks with all scratching their head over it. I have a few contacts within Chrysler as I have been working with brand doing off road vehicle launches for Jeep over the years but this has got all of them stumped as well. I suppose a WJ is old technology to them now! Many thanks in advance for any help.
 Cheers Duncan

I think had it been a Chrysler garage I would have from the perspective of them not being able to tell me what the fault was. The vehicle has long been out of warranty, is looked after by a local garage that has been doing work for me for years and I don't actually think it is their fault. Its just one of those electronic glitches that's proving difficult to analyse and repair.

Get them to clean the connection to the eclectic and check and clean all the main earths as you. Looking for a common fault

Thanks for that advice. Thats has all ready been done and we cannot find any earth connections that are bad so far......

I would try with a good known battery and also replace the engine earth strap to start with.

check the charge on the battery and what has already been mentioned. rather than repacing the earth strap you could measure the resistance between the two connections as this should be very low.

most of the errors are measurements which could be a result of one failure. Error 1608 and 1605 i would have thought to be at the top of the list for investigation first on the electronics side.  Only a guess.

Dr.Mike might be of use when he has a glance on the forum

Thanks for the latest info folks. FYI the battery is good. Its been checked is charging OK, holds charge and is still in good condition. We have fitted an additional earth stap which is going from the battery to the engine direct to try and rule out bad earth elsewhere ven though all earths have been checked.
The last comment is an interesting one re the SAM being toast so we will have a look at that now.
Thanks for all the help

Computer may need re-setting, think only a jeep dealer will have correct software. Was told by a jeep dealer that if too many inputs made by non Chrysler software computer may start to fault read and limp mode be interested if you got it fixed and what was wrong.

Luck

HI Johnjo, Thank you for that input. The vehicle over the years has run well and I wouldn't say its had too many inputs from a non Chrysler Test book, however its a valid point. The vehicle so far has not responded to anything up to date and is still off the road but the ECU has been removed and sent to a specialist company down south who deal with locating electronic problems such as this and reprogramming. Hoepfully they will be able to do something. They work on both Mercedes and Chrysler amongst a myriad of other vehicles so my fingers are crossed. Once I know what the solution is I will post it on the site.

I guess if the main ECU comes up a blank the next one to check will be the Auto ECU. Thanks for that advice, very specific and may well be the problem. I will pass onto my engineer and see what he says. Many thanks....

Had the same fault on my 2.7 a couple of years ago, turned out to be the ECU replaced it with new one (around 700 quid i think) it lasted about a month then happened again!! on the second time it went to jeep who acknowledged there was a problem with a cable routing which shorted out this had damaged the 2nd ECU luckily they replaced it as a goodwill gesture (thankfully)
