battery cut off, advice needed

something funky is happening to the CJ electrics, fitted new battery today and was no different so by passed the cut off switch and all fine, so now have 2 questions…

what is a good quality cut off switch that won't require a mortgage?

what is the recommended wiring for a cut off? I've always installed it in the positive from the battery but reading up for recommendations for a good quality cut off they seem split 50/50 as to weather it should be fitted to + or -

stick it in the +ve and get a diurite 250 amp switch

ignore that, is this for the car cut off or winch isolator?

If its for a car isolator, get one of these

that second type is the type currently fitted and fucked up, need a better quality unit, may try the Durite

Bruce, if you can send me your address I have a spare heavy duty isolator switch I can send you as an early Crimbo present (same as the first link)

was the original a durite?

if it was a shitty copy theres your problem

did it have a resistor and no and nc terminals on it?

Just remember not to run the starter motor main electrics throught the switch, the current draw at cranking can fry the switch especially after heat soak on a V8.

The starter motor is a direct feed and not good to isolate on this due to cranking load as mentioned. Have you looked at the manufacturers fitment location or msa location requirements. Can't you add its to the battery negative wire before it attaches to the earth

There are isolator terminals which stops battery drains but keep a low current connection for alarm and security applications. Tweeks might be your friendly place to starting searching
