just make own opinion needs some answers. have got xj 4.0 ho 1996. can i use all the time on the road in town "4x4full time"

in full time 4x4 you lock the front and rear props to gether
so tite turns would course problems and stress things

thanx. but isnt any +? why in book is info i can drive 4x4ft on paved roads in any cond- slip, wet, dry etc?
can it damage the car or any part of it?

Bigjeep is wrong. You can use full time all the time. The name is a clue. There are not really any disadvantages.

Think you have the option where you can run it safely on tarmac in fulltime 4wd.You also have part time low and high which is only for loose surfaces/offroad. More fun on roundabouts in 2wheel drive though.

trust you guys. changed to full 4x4. bit different feeling -but hopefully no issues during first 10 miles. will confirm after another 2k. for now thanx

It might take a while to "settle in". Our XJ makes quite a bit of noise when we first put it in 4wd, but after a little while it stops, and then is 100% fine. I've not compared 4wd to 2wd, but my dad reckons 4wd handles better.

No problem using 4wd on your XJ under any conditions. The change through the transfer box can be sticky if its not used regularly. Most important don't select part time on tarmac.

last stupid question in this topic:
When i finish to drive do i need to change to 2wd or can i leave it on 4x4ft? i think i can leave it in 4x4ft mode but want to sleep well- without nightmares.

Make a point of swapping between 2wd and 4wd to keep the linkage working and free. 4wd shpuld be no issue and a better drive especially in the wet

Leave it in 4WD permanently, but it does help to keep the transfer box sweet to perform a change now and then.
There can be a knack to getting a smooth change from 2 to 4wd. Getting stuck in part time was a regular thing with mine until I found my way of making it a really silky change. If yours doesn't do it smoothly post back for suggestions. I'm sure others will have there own suggestions. Just enjoy your Jeep

Absolutely agree, but the OP is new to Jeeps and if he has an XJ thats not been worked through the transfer change then it may stick in part time in which case it can be beneficial to take advice on how to get it moving. In another post he says that he gets an amber light for part time but not a green light for 4wd. May be the bulb, may be connections or may be he's stuck in part time. Don't know. Just trying to help a new Jeep owner through some of the hurdles.

When I drove it the change is smooth between 2wd, part time and 4wd. It is defiantly going into full time 4wd I know that for a fact. So most likely is the bulb not lighting up as green.

Just to add to the discussion, my XJ spent 8 years permanently in full time 4wd. And I bought a KJ in 2006, put it in FT 4WD when I left the forecourt and it's never been out of FT since.

im doing it actually 2400 miles. all ok. even light on dash start showing green symbol that works in 4x4FT. miracles
