Total Conversion Failure
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:32:31 PM »

I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee with a LPG Conversion.

Last week it would not switch on to LPG from Petrol, could see nothing obvious so booked a visit at local LPG specialist for today.

Last night driving along on petrol it just give up the ghost and came to a gentle stop at side of road and will not start up. Engine turns over and I can smell petrol under the bonnet but just will not start.

Any ideas?

That's where I'd be looking first.

Could be Cam sensor.

My XJ smelt of petrol when the cam sensor went.

Yes, it will cut the engine same as crank sensor - if you scan for fault codes it should say which one it is and may give clues if it's something else

Had the Green Flag Chappie out this morning and luckily he has a beast like mine. It was turning over and firing on all barrells but just not catching. He reckons the problem is on the LPG side and it is supplying too much petrol and basically flooding it.

Low loader came and now it is at the Vets.

The Beast is back from the Vets. Problem due to a burnt out Rotor Arm. Cost £30.00 inc. part and now runs like a gud un again but still on petrol only. Have to now go to LPG Vet.

LPG is harder on dizzy, plugs etc, worth changing the lot and carry spares....

I changed the lot last month with the bits off Ebay. The rotor arm must have been a dodgy bastard.

The Beast is back from the LPG vet who found that the ECU had become corrupted, lost all programming data and needed a firmware upgrade. All done and dusted for £50.00 and runs better than ever.
