TJ autobox oil pipe leak
«
on:
September 10, 2012, 07:02:44 PM »
Have traced the source of the BBQ under the bonnet to a connection on what I think is a transfer case oil cooling pipe. There are two pipes which go from the tanny case to either side of the bottom of the rad.
Are we talking replacing both pipes, just trying to tighten the connector or what folks.
Will have a search around for replacement bits but any tips or links would be much appreciated ta

Are you sure they are from the transfer case and not the autobox?
Me thinks auto box so yes a good idea to replace both pipes

Just try tightening them up first, IIRC there is a copper washer in the joint, could be wrong though, I just do them up BFT and have had no issues

OK, its not the joint, its actually leaking from the pipe/s right behind where it snakes around the joint of the exhaust / manifold.
So unless those with knowledge say different, looks like I am into a new set of pipes. Would no doubt make sense to change the front flexi pipes that are joined to the steel ones & then to the bottom of the radiator.
Links please, credit card time

Pirtek guys usually deliver the goods Gaz..used them in the past for pressure lines and hoses on diggers and JCBs. A lot of the local branches have a mobile service for on-site repairs as well.

Pirtek can make up new / replacement bits but dont deal with removal from cars, only lorries / tractors & the like because they can get at the big stuff, cars need a pit / jacking up etc.
Will try lighty's for a laugh later.

Dont mind getting hands dirty, just dont want to f@ck something up by tinkering unsupervised
Time to dig out the manual & have a read to see whats involved

Just undo the with a drip tray underneath to catch the fluid
when you refit the new ones just top up the fluid
or if you need to do a trans fluid change drain the box first

Cant find bugger all about changing the "cooler lines" anywhere in the manual
Need to know if removing is just gonna loose whats in the pipes or if the whole thing needs draining first

A plan is forming with a wise Birty, considering going down the route of replacing / re-routing with flexi pipes courtesy of Pirtek
Cheers for that Dave
