Whilst I'm fairly competent to do most things on the TJ, the thought of fitting new ring and pinions (and getting it right) doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling!!

Has anyone done it or can anyone recommend somewhere in the midlands that might be able to do it?  I can get the bits direct from the US, with a bit of advice from the suppliers to make sure I get the right bits.  The only place I can think of is Dave Mac propshafts in Coventry.

Any other ideas?

I was nervous about the first time I did R&P on my YJ, chatted with a local gearbox specialist & here on birties and they gave me enough confidence to carry on... since then I've done a number of them and really pleased that I taught how to do it myself, I have only basic mechanical skills and all went well, also fitted lockers front and rear, all happy days, if you do something wrong you'll know by just turning it.

I have considered doing it myself.  I have done suspension lifts, changed uj's, on the front shafts, body lift etc but that's all just remove and replace type work.  Whilst I have a good range of tools and a good place to work in, I don't have any specific tools for removing/pressing bearings, setting bearing preload and all that stuff. 

The advantage I do have is that the jeep is not the daily driver so I could take it to bits and leave it in bits for a month if I needed to.

We are on the same song sheet, I got a machine shop to press the bearings on, I spoke to them about per load, and matey just smiled and said don't worry, just fit the same shims that come out, he was right and all fine, yeah I had a few head scratching moments, but end result was I can do it myself now and didn't pay lots of cash. Happy days

you cant put the same shims in with a regear plus the crush sleeves are fussy
