best way to fix this ?

friend of mine snapped the lower shock bolt on his xj. Whats the easiest fix ?

Cut it off, grind it flush, drill it and use a high tensile bolt.

Make sure the high tensile bolt matches the size of the hole in the bush (in case you overlook the obvious)

get grade 8 one from an engineering supplier not a B&Q  one

Bolts made from 8.8 grade steel are structural strength.

High tensile bolts are made from 10.9 or 12.9 alloy steel.

I would use 10.9 grade plated ones and use new washers the same size as the ones you took off.

If your feeling bling go for stainless. Since its only a suspension damper its not going to be taking any structural loading (unless your dampers are too short any your on full articulation)

He got a bit impatient and wouldn't wait, so just set about it without soaking everything in penetrating fluid for a week, so he's snapped the top bolts as well, so will be knocking the captives off them too. Shocks etc. are all part of the rough country kit he bought secondhand, so will check the travel on them, fingers crossed. Guess who got the job of fixing it  :icon_rolleyes:
