The trouble with YJ axle seals is that they don't, well, seal. So taking the opportunity to 'upgrade' to XJ axle shafts that i've had under my bench for years. Gets rid of the POS outer seal, and adds stronger UJ's. Would have been finished today but there's a bushing in the axle near the disconnect that was a $*$&*^$(ker to get out. Done it now, but will finish tomorrow when its not dark and 0c...

All back together, now running XJ shafts. Seals were a complete dastard, but finally went in. Driven it round the block, all seems good (though i think the Tcase chain will need changing).

Have had oil like that before but luckily it was when offroading often and changing very regularly. The dana 30 seems to love to suck shit in. The 8.25 has never got contaminated it's weird.

Just goes to show that you need to change your oil regularly, it takes an hour and cost £30

The oil was fine, until i went through ONE ford
. That's why the seals had to go. Both were fooked. Neither had their tension springs, the disconnect shaft had a groove worn it, and the other one had a split and was perished and misshapen.
Never been happy with the disconnect setup, the seals always been a bit shit on that side. Hopefully now, they'll keep the water out and the oil in. Might look into those tube seals as well.

The Alloy USA ones work very well, but DO need some 'fettling' to fit a YJ D30. Well worth the effort though

Bugger. Having a 'solid' front axle has highlighted the need to have the front driveshaft rebuilt. Vibrations over 50mph due to worn splines.
