I'm after a cheap lift kit, but not so cheap that it's pants.
2 inch lift approx..
What do you guys think to Rough Country pro 2.2?... as I can get springs and shocks and a heavy duty damper for about 400 notes.
Be interested to hear your views and suggestions of others without going mental on cash.. and yes i'd love OME, but for the same that would be about 1000 of those notes..!

2" lift will give you a little more clearance to allow you to run bigger tyres, generally the idea of lifting, dont expect an off road god, from a ride point of view 2.2 are good dampers and give a softish ride.

A 2" lift aint gonna make massive amounts of difference to handling but a more aggressive stance and better ground clearance. Rough Country are tried and tested, everyone has their own opinions, i have just fitted a 4" long arm lift to mine and it is sweet, just make sure all ya bushes are in good order, lifts can put pressure where it was not before

not sure if anybody has rough country on a TJ here, ask around, it does seem a bit cheap tbh and you do get what you pay for.

I can tell from my experience that i had a 53 reg with 2" OME and it was brilliant, flexed like a good one and went most places, clearance was the only issue

also a 97 with a teraflex 2" lift which was massive, bigger than stated and with a 1" body lift and skyjacker shocks i ran 33's no problem, was a great truck but this one is on my drive been broken to give my other Tj a new lease of life

I have that kit on my tj. I found it pretty good off road with 31s everywhere except deep ruts. Road wise it's a bit harsh but I guess you accept the compromise between off and on road. I would have kept mine but got offered a bargain 5.5 re tri long arm! Once I've got round to fitting it ill probably sell by rc 2.2 springs and shocks but not till feb/ march.

Having just fitted Jedi's long arm kit I can testify as to the quality, good gauge steel, the welds are superb & the springs are a thicker wire than the IRO ones we took off! I have just replaced the control arms on my ZJ with rough country x-flex ones, they are brilliant, again very heavy & very good quality & the N20 shocks ride really well. My kit replaced Rubicon Express stuff & I would say the Rough Country stuff is better quality!
If you speak to Dave at Llama (he is the only importer of Rough Country) he well help you out with what you want, just make sure you have time to spare, cos' it won't be a short phonecall!

Hi i have the rough country 2.2 lift on my TJ. I think the road ride is as good as the stock & all though i only go green lanning its been faultless on the lanes... The guy from LLama 4x4 will give you loads of help ... but.. boy can he talk!! Also my insurance com AVIVA did NOT load the policy !! so would recommend it for the money.  I also fitted disconnects which help in rough country..

Also got the 2.5" RC lift on my TJ.. Its a lot of lift for not a lot of  money, yes I agree not the best out there, but for what I use the Jeep for, its brilliant..  I even found that my ride quality improved..  so if you after a buget lift, or tight on the cash - this is the way to go!!  Best of all is the warrantee - if anything goes wrong , RC will replace!! 

Give David from Llama4x4 a call, brilliant guy and very helpfull!!

One thing to keep in mind though, extend your bumpstops!!

If I may, I'd like to change the thread direction just a tiny bit. I'm not interested in lifting my KJ, but I want to firm up the ride somewhat. Has anyone used the Rancho or Monroe shock/struts and if so, could you point me to a good supplier in the UK.

I'm getting tired of driving a marshmellow..I prefer a ride like an ice cube, but don't want to wear an oxygen mask.

KONI or Spax adjustable...... Might have to buy them by specified length rather than car selection.

OR..... And I've got these....... Procomp Adjustables.....gas filled and 6 positions of adjustability


you need to look at the brochure as they are available in 3 different lengths and 2 different degrees of stiffness. presumably dependant on truck weight.

 Got the longest and. The softest for the front of the 1 Tonne and Tis fine......must do the back one day

Thanks Jez..the Rancho has nine settings and some blokes on the aussie forum swear by them, but I have Monroes on the Patrol and they are very good. Also, Monroe has a matched spring and shock for the front of a KJ which looks pretty good. I could get this stuff from the US, but most of them won't post to here because it rarely arrives and they end up with hassles. Apart from that, the duties to be paid here on stuff from over there would make your eyes water! On top of all that rubbish, I would have to drive 300 miles, round trip to collect it, as the customs people don't allow couriers to collect.....at the end of the day, a 100 quid item from the US will cost me almost five times the purchase price! If I can get it from the UK, I pay the purchase price, plus about 20quid for the courier, right to my front door...no more to pay!
