If the front is anything to go by, just spannering, hubs off and all that, pry oil seal out, and it will just pull out.

Oh btw, if anybody has the need for a petrol front offside WJ halfshaft, I've got one going for free. Came with the CV joint I bought in Belgium.
Bloody petrol ones are an inch longer (as somebody else already pointed out elsewhere)

if you do fit a new bearing on the shaft a press is by far the best tool for fitting

Look like Jeep is going to Carlos next weekend and Me / Rob / Tank / Carlos are going to do an Axle swap.

Tank looking into borrowing a flat bed unless anyone local have a trailer we can borrow.

Changing the shaft over and axle is the best option Jay. Ask a certain Birty some cash and he can do that for you

I can see the sense, axle off carlos 175 squidsish
drive shaft, bearing kit, discs, pads etc will be way more IMHO

DON'T forget the piss taking too

Eaxctly this, except axle was a bit cheaper off him.

I got new disc's and pads yesterday so will swap them over but motorfactors did them at trade so saved a few ££.

As you have said its the cheapest option to get it mobile again.

Q. If a fuse blown would you re-wire half the house

fit the shaft and discs from the other axle, if you don't know the history you are taking a gamble

i could swap a shaft in 1/2 hour using sockets and a pair of mole grips, on the roadside if it came to it. If you want to fit a new bearing and seal then a dremel and press make it nice but can be done with a long piece of pipe and a chisel. Swapping brakes is easy and if you clamp the pipe you will need little bleeding.

Replacing an axle is a big job, by all means buy the axle as it is cheap but dont fit it all. I dont understand the logic

Indeed, it was bloody cold sorting the wheel out and changing disc's yesterday outside.

So what ever fix we do we will be warm!

Must admit, I'm with Mocaj & Robsroti, buy the axle, keep what you dont need as spares. You know your diff is fine so leave it alone. No need to trailer the car either & fix can be done at a more relaxed pace nit fighting to get it done to get it home

If your just using basic hand tools, swapping the shaft is far simpler & quicker, if your using air/battery tools swap the axle! Build the new brakes up on the floor, unbolt the prop, gun the top & bottom arms disconnect the brakes & arb & drop it down on a trolley jack! As good old mister haynes says reverse the procedure!
If the "new" axle is good I know which way I would go! Just as a matter of interest if it got smacked hard enough to smash the disc & bend a half shaft has it bent the control arms or tweaked the unibody mounts?
