yup, dunno if they have improved but meant to be as brittle as a very brittle thing, last birty that bought a set sent them straight back

however bushwackers had that rep and ditched it 2 yrs or so ago

ask on jeepjunkies - lotta XJ doods on there so there might be some 2ndhand sets

There are alternatives depending on what you want them for - looks, tyre  coverage etc

I've always liked the look of the Rustys ones.

I've had the Polish fibreglass ones on mine for a couple of years.

I filled them with expanding foam and bonded steel washers around the bolting points so that when bolted tight it was a solid fix.

I've found when I hit them it pulls the wing out of shape/takes paint off.

In fact when the corsa pulled out in front of me and got wrote off all it did do is crush the lower part of one a bit - as the corsa spun around and hit me.

so I'm happy enough for the money - though they will need a lot of prep work prior to fitting/painting

Have a having 5" lift soon and bought 33x12.50x10. They need to be durable for off road. But I need them due to the wheels having over the existing arches. Need to be road legal. I really want the bushwacker flares but no one can get them in the uk. Might just bite the bullet and order them from the US.

I'm also thinking about a steel bar alternative. With sheet steel over it.

I see loads of guy on this forum on there xjs. Must be some place can get them.

Mine has standard TJ rear flares on the front and rear and they are good for tyre coverage and durability off-road. They do take a bit of fitting becausre of the curves on the XJ body but I'm really pleased with them

The Polish fender flare aren't too bad, they're about 1/4 of what the real bushwackers are but you could also have a look out for the slightly higher quality polyurethane ones they do. They're about £230 and a much better rugged bet.

I've put some on mine and to be honest when they showed up I wasn't pleased, but once the excess material was trimmed and I put on some edging trim they looked much better. Once screwed in place they looked great and increadily tough, being PE they are impact resistant and at worst they will push back in to shape. I can even stand on mine when loading the roof! Here's some pics.

.......I have a second number plate, just below the wheel carrier before anyone gets concerned. :icon_winkle:
