I have a power steering fluid leak and cannot find out where it is leaking from but the pump and associatedd pipes are so difficult to get to and see.

Is it best to take the alternator off to get at it? Even that doesnt look as straight forward as over alternators

Yes, this 2.5TD VM engine is a big dissapointment, Ive wanted a Cherokee for years but not enjoying this one

Just been through the same problem 
 The pipework is much easier to see/get at from underneath so access to ramp/pit is a big bonus! and its a good chance that its the pipes themselves that are leaking as its a pretty common issue they rot from the inside out
 TBH i didn't do the job myself having my friendly local mechanic do it for me and he only had to move the airbox to improve access
One good point though is that because its my daily driver i ran it for a couple of months with the pump dry! until i had time to take it off the road And after having some newly made pipework fitted (150 quid from hydraulic specialists) filled her up and pump was still fine Mechanic mate was shocked! he's known cars have pumps die after going a few yards with no fluid in

Yes it is easier to pull the alternator first, just be sure to mark the mounting bracket for correct belt tension on refitting. Royal desiesel pain the ass!!

Ah, nice one guys, thanks for the advice!
The steering is hardly there and makes a grinding/squeeling noise when turning.
Is the alternator as straight forward as usual as it looks a bit more complex?

you will have to go from underneath to get to steering box and pipes.

most likely is intercooler pipe has been rubbing on the bend of the pipe and made a hole if you have a big leak

Its the power steering pump thats gone so need to get that replaced

Anyone know how difficult it is to remove and fit a replacement power steering pump or know of a guide on the web anywhere as I cant seem to find any help?

Its a right pain - I've given some away with the enigine as struggled to get off, even though it would have sold for £50 - does that show you what a pain it is - and thats on engines removed


It is actually like 2 parts thats fitted through the block
