What 1983 CJ7 clutch kit do I need - and where to get ?
« on: April 04, 2013, 11:54:11 AM »

As indicated some time ago I think the clutch is going.  Will have to do something about it before Harptree.

Googled CJ7 clutch kits but then different diametres and other techy stuff throws me off.

Old iron specialists : What do I order and where ?

Cheers.

You really need to know what the transmission is on your jeep and the spline count of your shaft, this link will tell you what spline count you have etc, :icon_biggrin: http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmission_gateway.htm

With Lightys @ 260 squid incl vat & postage, I will fuck around if you don't mind.

Only thing is that Morris 4x4 has 10.50" kits and 11" kits.  Anybody know the difference ?

$154 bucks = £ 100 Sterling.

One of my skippers has a Florida girlfriend and is there now, and can stick it in an extra suitcase so that's the
first battle won. :greggmo:

Flame away please.

Pull the thing out and measure it? you are going to have to do it at some point anyway.
And dont forget to mend that leaky crank seal whilst you are in there :icon_winkle:

It says here that anything from 1980 onwards is a 10.5 inch clutch

I also found this if it helps

Ok, just had a nice web-chat with one of the guys at Morris 4x4.   Its a 10.5".

Will be ordering : Master Clutch kit, crank seal, oil pan gasket and a temp. sensor.

One of my skippers lives in Florida and happens to be on leave, coming back next weekend. :icon_super:

Question : the kit has no clutch-tool  (you know the alignment whatchamacallit)..... chappy in US says I need to rent one.  saw a guy on youtube with a plastic gizmo  :017:

I used to have a phillips screwdriver that was a perfect fit in a 1/2" square drive, meant I could use sockets to make an alignment tool.

Worth a bash to see if you could do something similar.
