Double whammy

I sit here writing this post of dual purpose:-
1) to hopefully resolve my problem and/or
2) give me a valid reason for contemplating suicide for the biggest dumb ass mistake!!

Finally managed to source a replacement engine for my desiesel and managed to get it in without too much hassel, however in poor light and with out realising the new battery I just bought has the posts swapped - I connected the battery and BANG!! :die: :die:

Having noticed my mistake, I rapidly disconnected all - and connected correctly, and here now lies my problem.... on ignition and after checking all fuses that I can find and replacing the blown ones, I have only the ABS light on my dash - no guages - no check engine - nothing else.... All internal lights etc work fine as does central locking.

My fear is that I have blown the ECU :icon_toilet: is there a test I can carry out to isolate the ECU? would a scanning tool point me in the right direction to isolate what it is I've blown?

Any input appreciated as always
