WJ TRANSFER BOX QUESTION

Is there a difference between the 4.7 and 4.0 transfer box on a WJ. Are they interchangeable !!!!

Stu , i never worked on a  G/C but the t/c has a alloy tag rivited on the back of it with the type/ number like

 
NP 231 J,   check the number on your box  then you can check the 4l ..........   just checked round  and it looks like the WJ has a  NV247 transfer case  . :icon_winkle:

if it helps my 2002 4.0 WJ uses the NV247

Cheers both I will get my rags on tomorrow and check. Wondering wether to put a second hand transfer box in or replace the chain. Just got the local garage totting up the hourly rate for me

Progress Report on Rattling Chain
Weighing it all up I bought a low mileage S/H transfer box and had the local garage fit it. All in £200. I thought that was cheap as chips so I can now hear the exhausts without the tinny sound. Will take the casing off next weekend on the old transfer case and show how baggy it was so info can be shared.
