TJ Hardtop wiring harness - help !!
« on: June 08, 2013, 08:11:11 PM »

Guys,

Got myself a hardtop for my TJ... As my TJ is the Renegade model (Sport / X in the US) and came original with a soft top,  It's not factory pre-wired..

Here's my prev posting
http://www.birtydastards.com/frm/index.php?topic=23026

So, I eventually ordered the wiring kit and got round to install it today

Here is the installation instructions I got with it
http://www.moparsupercenter.com/pdfs/82208907.pdf

So, all went well'ish..  Found that the grommet location on the harness didn't give me enough cable left to reach the new washer bottle, so had to move it further down.. Fortunately, it seems like the harness is for  the unlimited TJ, so got plenty of cable, but the grommet was nicely sealed and taped into the harness.. Well had to moved it and seal it up again as best as I can..

Now inside the Jeep..  Took off the centre console, to put in the switches.  Found that there is already cables behind the blanking plates(step 18).  Odd, as its fits my switches.. Hmm... I thought, it the Jeep partly wired...   Decided to continue, now with the instrument cluster out, I need to add to wires to the plug , that plug into the cluster, I take this is to show when the defrost is on..  Again as step 22 explain, there should be 2 opening, but oh no.. Cables in all..

What am I missing here... Anyone done this before / any pointers here, or am I just a bit on the dim side here

Thx

Another bit I found odd..

Step 14, install the relay and fuse..

Fuse went in, as in the picture, and the spot is marked as HBL, bingo!!  but where the relay has to go in, as on the diagram, the spot is marked as rear locker, and where its marked as HBL, is for a skinny relay..

Am I going mad.........

Sorry I have no idea, my jeep came with a hard top and was all wired. You may have an issue with left and right hand drive being slighly different is all I can think of.

True, the cable is for lefthand, but all it means is that it will be a stretch for a few cables. For the rest, it should all be the same

What it seems like is that the UK Jeeps was partial pre-wired, so think I should just ignore the current cables and use those from the harness

he had LOADS to do in excess of the wiring (if its the Mopar one) thats come with the kit
It does not integrate hardly at all
But can be done

Yes, got the same harness..  Was considering taking it down for Terry to have a look at..

Could he got everything to work as it should in the end?
