key fob frustration
« on: August 18, 2013, 08:53:17 AM »

Luckily my v8 came with two key fobs, but only one was working.

I fitted a new key pad and batteries and then kept pressing the buttons until it started to lock/unlock .Checked the car started and all was well.

Yesterday, miles from home, the fekking fob chose to mess about . Just wouldn't unlock the car  :017:. Locking was ok, but it just didn't want to let anyone in the car  :banghead:

Is this a common event for Jeeps ?

Eventually after mucho frantic button pressing it opened the car and we drove home .

Time for a new key fob ! The other fob is working fine so at least the system on the car seems fine.

Very common for the WJ.

I've had 2 for best part of 10 years.  Forget the 7 mtr radius.....never worked.

I had to hold my keyfob next to the window, in one particular place and then try unlock a few times.  sometimes it did. sometimes it didn't.  Then had to walk over to the NS and try there.  I'm sure that a lot of people have been thinking that I was trying to steal my own car  :003:

Swmbo's fob however was a bit better behaved but not by much.

Had a similar situation with my KJ..one worked fine, the other was 'iffy'. I spat the dummy a while back, removed the battery from the fob and drowned the little bastard in WD40, let it sit for half and hour, then blew it out with an air nozzle. Works like a dream now.

Has very so similar with my wk. not sure what's what but after a lot of farting about I find changing the battery sorts it. I know that's the first thing everyone does but I can only guess that the fob either needs close to 100% power to be mr efficient or removing the power so it flattens then a burst of electricity going in kick starts it.

Works for me. Very odd, but has worked several times :017:
