Cherry Bomb? Size?
«
on:

Re-doing the exhaust, cherry bombs look good for size and cost and making a noise.
I'm trying to work out what length to go for - presumably longer is quieter but what length is good for a 4.0. Currently I'm looking at 18" or 26". I know a few Birty's have had them on Jeeps - what length did you have? Did you find them too loud / not loud enough? What size would you recommend based on this?

The 1 ton isn't that loud from memory either - or am I just deaf?

Try these guys.....Tis where I got the bits to do mine......
Www.jetex.co.uk.... Save you getting ripped off by some of the more bespoke spendy emporiums.
Also as you can weld you will save on clamps
mine comes apart in 2 large but manageable pieces.

How long was the cherry bomb on the Grand (the actual silencer bit if you have that measurement)?

Got the old side exit box from the 1 Ton.......Tis round and if you are interested I'll take apic and measurements.
I am sure the current set up is quieter due to the longer length of the complete system. So with the old box on you could fine tune the noise before the final weld up

I think I'm heading down the route of a new cherry bomb and some 2.5" tube I'll weld up myself. Just trying to decide size and then click the buy button.

Well now this is my story
Y Piece from the cat then x2 side exits infront of back wheels all stainless. Absolutely great noise and a lovely burble.
4.0 WJ.
MOT stated loud aftermarket exhaust. Couldnt argue IT BLOODY IS. Would I change it NO CHANCE, PRICELESS FOR THE GLARES/STARES. Plus only cost me £100 from Silver Systems Leek Staffordshire

I'm been looking into this to mine since the 3 link .
Looking at a 2.5 " bore which is seems to be correct for engine size decat because I can (pre 93) and going cherry bomb looking at minimum of 18” body up to 26" which ever fits .
I've heard from a few people that its gets quieter which suits me (trains rules at some sites under 100db)

Just ordered this, cheap and cheerful so can always be replaced if needed.

It's on, sound is deep and loud, not sure the neighbours like it but maybe it will calm down a bit with time and at the moment it ends before the rear axle so the extra tube to the rear might help to. Engine seems to run a lot better too but I haven't driven it yet. I'll report back in my build thread with some pics tomorrow.
