Hello, first post so prob in the wrong area...
Has anyone experienced the after effects of the above software patch that renders low range unusable? It's all over the US forums and I was wondering if anyone over here had managed to get a resolution from fiat/Chrysler ? I have the car booked in for Monday and don't want to be messed about by the dealer - costs of over £500 have been mentioned for a new actuator.
Thanks

Hi Mike,

Welcome.

Post in correct section so you got that one right  :003:  Maybe you can follow this up by an intro in the Members Ride sections.

Interesting you mention this.  Got the letter from VOSA about a month ago.  Booked truck in and job done - no worries.

I must add however that I have, to date, never had the truck in 4x4 low range since acquiring it in March last year so I wouldn't
know if that works or not.  can you post up a link ?

Can you please elaborate a bit more on that actuator issue and where that comes in.

I do however seem to be bitten by a current swirl motor issue for which the truck will most probably end up at the dealer
in the next few days  :010:

Thanks for the quick response!
I seldom use the low range but just check it works every now and again.
As soon as in neutral and I lift the little lever "service 4x4 system" flashes up.
Give it a try but be prepared! Jeep are totally aware of the situation but aren't holding their hands up yet. There is a link that includes the Chrysler Star case

Just as an extra I emailed VOSA accusing them of being complicit in breaking my car. I probably should have counted to ten before I hit send...

When mine went in last for a new air flow meter they had written N23 on the job sheet so I looked into it and they said they do it on all vehicles coming into them. Mine's always been fine in low.

Looking at another source it seems about 70% of vehicles are affected. I hope the dealer is familiar with the issue and that VOSA respond soon... Although I have not a great deal of optimism. Bah!

I read is was a circuit board prone to cracking rather than a software issue.

Potentially both. If anyone can remember the Potterton Suprima issues of the last decade it would be a bit like reprogramming the board to only use the circuits that were badly soldered. This may be an analogy to far so I'll leave it there as Benidorm is on...

n23 software update is due to the trans case dropping into neutral in a few circumstances...if it wont select low range after the flash get the dealer to flash it again, after this the fault code C140F “Transfer Case Range Position Sensor Erratic Performance" will show as active, clear the code 3 or 4 times and it will drop from active to stored, then the final clear will reinstate the low range. the guys at technical say the new flash gives the tcm more control over the transfer case motor  this in turn has made it more susceptible and flags up the code. they are aware of it and this is there fix...it works too..done loads of em recently. The on;y issue is if you had a dodgy transfer case to start with it will simply highlight it and will need changing.

Brilliant  :flag:Just hope the transfer case is OK. I guess I'll find out on Monday...
