Strange issue with temperature dial
«

I'm in the process of fixing any little niggles with the XJ at the moment, so I thought I'd look into this which has been puzzling me for a while.
The temperature dial for the heater no longer turns all the way to the hot setting. It will turn to about the 3 o'clock position, but that's it. I can force it all the way, but it immediately springs back when I let go.
I can't really tell, but I think it does seem like the heater's not blowing at the max temperature, which would be logical with the knob in that position.
Any ideas??

First thing I would try is, pull the dial/knob off and check that it hasn't slipped around the shaft and re-aligned itself. Replace it in the correct position. The same thing happens on my wifes Yaris.

Cheers, but I did that the other day and it's the shaft itself that isn't turning as far as it should!

I have this on the TJ with the temperature sliders.
I can't shut the heating off and I can't push it to maximum.
It is on my list of to dos.
This list is getting quite long

I thought I'd update now that I've found the fix for this...
When I installed a newer Chrysler radio from a Voyager, I had to get a new adapter box to make my existing CD changer work. Where I had put this box, it was stopping the plastic on the back of the knob inside the dashboard from turning all the way!
Stupidly simple, and rather annoying that I went all winter without proper heat because of it!

You aren't alone mate...we've all done things like that...and most of us will admit it!
