Stick lots of grease on the new one(or vaseline), feed it through gently, turning as you go...don't force it!

Um, been there and got the Tee shirt for being a daft bugger on that one!

It's not difficult to replace the complete cable including the sheath and it stops you finding that the new one is too bloody long when you're nearly finished.

And it also stops you wiping grease all over the place as you wrestle it down the old outer sheath that has probably got something wrong with it anyway, 'cos surely you've got to ask yourself why the last cable broke?

Your choice: 10 minute fix and replace again next month or 1/2 hour and the jobs done for good.

Sort of agree with you..but even with a complete new inner AND outer, you need to pull the inner out and lubricate it properly before fitting. They fail for two main reasons:

Lack of lube

Kinking or damage to the outer sheath

I've replaced roughly a dozen of these on my own vehicles over the years and in almost all cases the failure occurred within 6" of the gauge connection and it was almost always rusty around the separation point.

so is there an easy way? Can i cable tie them to each other and pull it thru? I suppose that may be a question for someone with a full size

B D it should pus through without any difficulty if there is no break or damage to the outer , just pull out the old inner and like the guy says smear of lube and it should slide through without any difficulty, if you do struggle then chances are the outer is damaged and snagging once through you should be able to rotate the inner cable with your fingers as it is the spinning inner cable which is the connection from speedo to gearbox

, the outer is just a carrier

easy fix to do the whole cable, inner and outer, if I had the right jeffin cable

I have a new speedo cable for a LHD, which goes to the cruise control box and so is only about 3ft long, whereas my cruise control box is about 6ft away

more of my hard earned will be going lightys way

Bulbs
Bad connections
Flasher relay
Fuses
Indicator switch on column

Indicators working again

Good job i have balls of steel just drove up the M20 in a storm with windscreen wipers that go up but then won't come back down - they can be forced back down by hand and up they go again but wont return

Instead of replacing the speedo cable, how about fitting one of those Dakota Digital Dash thingies from the US?

About £400 plus import duty.

An insignificant sum to a man of your great wealth.

All the sensors are with it including the speedometer pulser unit.

And there's lots of other trick stuff you can connect to it

Mine whirred and clanked a bit but never stopped.
I think you're going to have to pull the arms off the splined shafts then remove the louvred panel.
