after yesterdays unbolting session on the bug today was more to do with a 9" grinder, roof off, doors off (someone had welded the hinges on) and then it started to go sideways. it had a previous repair that for some reason they welded the sill to the floor pan so body off ended as front end off only.
run out of disks till tomorrow so feet up for a bit.

na not keeping this one, it's a build and sell job, minimum spend - maximum resale, just using up bits we have in the shed, Tan does want another Baja and I have a Baja kit for a 1302S so when the buggy is sold we will get a 1302 and sell her Ford Maverick

finished getting the rest of the old tin shell off and the floors out, dug out the buggy body from the back of the shed and rested in on more for some where to put it for now, body repairs and paint prep starts next week.

yes I know it needs cleaning  but at least there's no rust under the moss

What are you doing for floors....... Don't they normally stay with the chassis

I heard a rumor that you could get Beetle floors without rust holes so looking to see if I can find some 

the old ones had repairs over repairs and to make it more fun the shell had been welded to the floor pan as well, besides new floors always help the sale and I want to add some strengthening bars under the floors

the cost of a new floor is cheap so not worth putting a patch on a patch

lost a few hours this morning at UWE, proposal for a new traditionally built stone bridge we are hoping to get involved with.

did manage to jetwash off the moss and other detritus from the shell and chassis and then went into full creative mode, had an idea to graft in the orginal metal dash from the beetle into the buggy, not as easy as it firsts sounds as the dash is round-ish and the hole is square, but cut out the old dash and made a frame, bit of tin bashing tomorrow and might have something photo worthy by the end of the day.

funny thing is this project is coming up to my 20th what I call a big custom build (mostly custom & kit cars, but a few trucks and bikes too) and I still get excited at the idea of creating something new.

got the old tin mounted this morning and had first fit, highlighted a couple of minor issues, I need to create clearance for the wiper mech, and need to make a brace for the column mount.

rest went to plan, next stage for the tin is to finish the transition from the old curved dash top to the flat bug dash top and cap the sides.

That second pic makes the windscreen seem v for large....... Anyone ever done a Hotrod chop to make it caterham 7 size??

yea the GP MkII is one of the bigger screens, have seen em with chopped, aero's or no screen at all, but want this a all year usable buggy, working on designing a 6 point cage that will also work as soft top frame so the screen hight helps

managed to grab a few hrs today on the dash, raised the top edge by 1" to cover the wiper mech, made a support for the column and flared in the tinwork.

bit of filler and paint tomorrow and it will start to look like a proper dash

taken back to bare metal this morning and then got it's first fill and primer

well that's as far as I can go on the dash now till I get the paint, all the small bits have been shot blasted and primed and the main dash prepped down to 320 grit ready for paint.

Heres a pic of my old moggy van, chopped an channelled originally it had a viva ha front end, ford rear end, 3.0 scimitar v6, revolution wheels  it would smoke the tyres up to third

very nice..... Happy days .......remember the VivaHA front end.....oh yes.....sometimes even attached to a Viva...... But around me was used in Ford Anglia E93 A hot rods......
