TJ steering box leaking
« on: April 02, 2014, 06:09:41 PM »

Hi guys, need advise,  my steering box is dripping fluid, I'm pretty sure it's coming from the seal where the column goes in but not had a full on proper look yet,

What are my options?

New?
Rebuild kit?
Anybody got a used one for sale?

Cheers

Ive sent mine to these guys. quick turn around too

Normally you buy an exchange unit, and when they get yours they credit you some coin

A good few folks including myself have used these too http://jaygee.co.uk/

You can post yours to them, they refurb yours & post it back, was about £120 all in for our TJ.

Alternatively, take it to Bubba as he is local to them, he removes it, takes to Jaygee, you pay over the phone, he picks up & refits ... you exchange coin ... job done

I rebuilt mine, kit sourced from Carlos Fandango on here for less than 20 quid, and no need to remove the box from the vehicle. The only tricky bit was removing the pitman arm. Luckily one of my neighbours has a hydraulic puller, very similar to a regular 2 arm puller, but once that was off the whole job was very straightforward.

What was in the kit, did it have the seal round steering input shaft/column?

The kit was only for the output shaft since that was the only leak I had.
