For a while the back diff on my cherry has had a clunk on takeup in drive, to be honest I've lived with it for ages but recently ive been told you can adjust the d35, id like to know what and how you adust to stop this

Do you mean re-shim?...... If so you can do that to any axle

Anybody else done the shim adjustment?

if you have a clunk on take up of drive you need a rebuild on the axle there is no secondary adjustment

it is all as you say adjusted when built

Have a look on Randys ring & pinion for the parts, might I suggest a detroit true track LSD while your at it & have a word with Bubba (Kev) about rebuilding it. You wont find better or cheaper

How much roughly gaz? Might be a next year job as I want to move out this summer. Didn't some XJ's come with LSD's when new? Mines not got one as it spins the inside wheel when, ahem, enthusiastic cornering

if I was you and I aint  I would get a full rebuild kit  and as for the lsd I personally think they are landfill due to the problems they can bring instead of buying replacement clutch pacs I would fit a lunch box locker and use your existing carrier 

and all being well your ring and pinion are ok to re use

Thanks for the advice gaz, and Sheriff, I will be changing the diff oils next week, is it worth me sending you some pics for you to take a butchers at or am I pissing into the wind?
