Brighter lights , Jeep grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 . . .
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:43:22 PM »

Me and my Grand Cherokee live in the mountains of Bulgaria , and travel on some very poorly lit roads in Bulgaria , Poland Russia and Ukraine . . . Quite often there are no cats eyes , no white lines , no edge lines , huge potholes and all manner of wildlife leaping out of the bushes at you . . . On main beam the lights are good enough , but when i dip them i can see very little . . .Part of the problem is the fact they dip to the wrong side as i still have English lights in the car , but getting a set of LHD lights won,t improve them that much . . . I did buy a set of brighter bulbs at Halfords while in the UK , but my mechanic friend in Poland assured me they were the wrong ones as Jeep has some strange Jeep only bulbs fitted . . . Can anyone tell me what i can fit to improve the standard set up , and can i get any brighter bulbs or lights to fit in the under bumper spotlights . . ? Not too worried about the legal aspect , as anything goes lighting wise out here . . . .

Some LED fog lights mounted low that you can keep on all the time and not only on high beam seem like a good idea.

I'm sure you could also find some 100w bulbs if the wiring is up to the extra load (I don't know the setup on a WJ)

You can ignore the links to the rear bulbs, they're all the WRONG fitment ! (Yeah, I was a knob an ordered wrong type. Any links for front lights are good to go. :) )
You can get some daily inexpensive LEDs that could
be used as DRLs, a mate uses  these on the side of his Disco for night searches with KSAR.

I keep reading that H4 bulbs are fitted to the grand Cherokee . . . Does that apply to the 2003 4.7 model . . . Anyone know . . .?

I also read you can upgrade the spots , some better bulbs on Ebay . . . don,t know if the wiring will take it . . .we shall see .. .?

Good thing with the LED conversions is that they use less power, hence not straining your cabling.
I would assume yours has H4 bulbs, as it's a pretty standard fitment - pull 'em out and have a look.

I wouldn't assume it has H4 - take a few minute to check one. I haven't had a WJ but my Grand and most newer vehicles use smaller like H1 or offset connection types like H11

I replaced my dismal lights on my 04WJ with HID's - absolutely fantastic!!

Take the lights out and fit the ballasts to the rear of the light on an upright - I thought the lights were 2005 & 2006's

Anyways - they make a fantastic difference - however as the lens is not a projector type the other car drivers may have issues :)
