4.0 litre exhaust manifold

Got a “ticking” noise under acceleration so I think this means the standard 4.0 problem of cracked exhaust manifold. What’s the advice from people who have had this before?

Don’t really care about the sound of the exhaust or gains in power so no interest in a fancy header unless it’s the best way to go and will save me having to strip out the manifold again in a few months time.

Weld the manifold and hope, replace with an aftermarket part or what?

replace it mate. you can get after market ones or of you find one off a late tj they have stretch points biult in from the factory. there was one for sale a while ago on jeep club if i remember corectly. 8)

Get a Stainless Steel one shipped from the States - use Google to find a supplier - you should save at least 50% over a UK priced one from a dealer (probably save more!) and then buy a Haynes manual and fit it yourself. - The only 'Specialist' tool you will need is a torque wrench that you can buy from Halfords or hire from a motor factors. I did one on a previous TJ with very little previous 'mechanical' skills - It was time consuming but relatively easy although some of the bolts are akward to get to. Good luck  :wink:

anyone got experience of the twinflex header  :?:

just got to check our build date, as 97 had two versions from what i can find out and one type needs mods to the existing exhaust.

I got one last year off ebay US and it cost around $99 plus shipping, i'm pretty sure they are the same from 91-99 for the 4.0l, worked a treat. 8)
Easy to change, just nuts and bolts without any specialist tools apart from maybe a torque wrench!

Yup. Got one on my XJ, seems fine. I got mine last year off a guy called James Boyd through the JeepClub website. JAMES BOYD Tel: 01246 450650 good service - paid about £160 delivered IIRC.

keep an eye on the listings as the same seller puts them on fairly regular.
