So today I noticed that the car won't shift above 3rd gear when out and about. Car drove fine for about 15 mins then a slight jolt and it wouldn't go above 3rd gear.  Was on the motorway and tried to slow down to see if it would downshift but it wouldn't.

Got off the motorway and the car eventually shifted down as I was slowing to stop but when I got going again it still wouldn't shift above 3rd gear.

Anyone else experienced this problem?? Slightly worried as the wife's car is in the garage at the moment with air suspension problems.

I assume it's a 4 speed auto. Sounds like a sensor gone down, you need to go to a dealer and get the transmission scanned for faults.

Can't help you with the gear problem there are many wiser gents on here that can.
The air suspension problem if it's a Range Rover there is a Wheeler Dealer episode on the Range Rover explaining what goes wrong and the cure.

Yeah I seen that episode actually. Think they replaced a wiring loom whatever that is!! I hit a pothole down in abu dhabi yesterday and the front right side lowered to lowest setting straight away. Engine on off and it rectified itself but went out today and the quote car had lowered so had it carted off to garage. Just spent a fortune on a new alternator,  mechatronic and valve body as well so I don't need to be forking out any significant amounts again!!!!

Bad news man. Gearbox is completely goosed.

1400 for new box supply and fit. Can anyone advise if this is a reasonable price?

Which vehicle gearbox is it, the Jeep or the Land Rover?
Have you considered a used box with a guarantee on it?
Either way, many scrap/reclamation yards do a supply and fit service as well, which can help control spiralling costs.

 What's the details of the diagnosis. Get valves go faulty which you can replace

It's the Jeep gearbox.  I have zero luck at the moment with cars

Yes 1400 doesn't sound too bad for a modern auto box, now it is horrendous when you actually have to spend it yourself but for what you are getting its not too bad. And can they not overhaul your own one?

Sounds cheap to me.
