Looking to pick up a 60th anniversary this week, 4.0 litre petrol, auto box, want to run 265/75 16 Wrangler duratrac. What gearing issues could this cause, oh 3" lift kit as well. Thanks in advance.

You'll have 3.55 gears and would want 4.10 to correct back to stock with the 265/75/16. It will change gears lot at motorway speeds and feel sluggish. It will also have less than ideal amounts of engine braking when going down hills offroad.

I am running 31's without a re gear.

the cheapest way is to get axles of a 2.5 petrol
or it's expensive

It'll work while you get the lift and tyres and any niggles sorted. Then the swapping in of 2.5 petrol axles or buying new ring and pinions gears, overhaul kits and labour to have them fitted can be done. I'd fit the lift kit and tyres first and get used to what it's like - I ran mine on 31" tyres with stock gear for ages.

Mine will cruise on motorway ok only time I noticed a problem was with a sticky calliper and a big road hill climb.

Now since i am new to the Jeep thing my gearing is way out running 33,s, I can do 85mph in 3rd gear and fifth is useless unless up to motorway speeds and flat ground or even better downhill, BUT.................... off road I have found the gearing of the TJ low box the opposite, especially than the land rover low box I am more used to, where I would do something in a land rover in 2nd low, I find 3rd low in the TJ better to keep up with the flow with my mates whom I know are running in 2nd low in there Landies, which is a complete up yours to the on road gearing saga I have.
So where I have a problem on the road, I have no such problem once off road and in Low.
