Airbag light
« on: July 01, 2014, 08:29:41 AM »

Air bag light coming on most of the time now, occasionally goes out on the TJ.

No other gauges are effected.

Am I right in thinking its a case of having the dash clocks out & clean all contacts etc ?

Or it is the clock spring (steering wheel part) on it's way out.

I've heard it can be replaced with an XJ one, although I've not confirmed it.  Suspect I may have to replace mine sooner rather than later as well.

I had the same happening with the air bag light, but I was told if it's the clock spring the horn also stops working. Mine did stop working and airbag light stayed on. Replacement clock spring fixed it

The horn is on a separate circuit within the clockspring. Horn or airbag circuit can fail and still leave the other circuit working. If the airbag light is on I'd say there's a greater than 99% chance the clockspring is bad.

Disconnect battery and wait two minutes before proceeding is the official line.

Used to leave it longer than 2 minutes to allow for full disharge. Maybe things have changed slightly over the years
