Not exactly life or death this one, but boring driving around without a stereo.

Checked all fuses in the engine bay, which don't seem related, and checked connections and fuse on rear of stereo - all seems as it should be, however... see below pic*.

There seems to a fuse missing from the "radio" labelled section of the interior box. Is this as it should be or is one missing?

*apologies for awful pic quality. Lost the light and phone batt died just at the wrong time of course! Might try again later.

put one in and see what happens, at the supply to the radio 12v or nothing

Will see what I can do. Bit of an odd shape compared to the rest. Presuming because it's 12v and a different type of fuse?

Will admit my mechanical, and particularly electrical, knowledge is fairly limited so thanks.

Looks the same then... hmmm.

Any further suggestions regarding no power to radio?

I presume it is functional although haven't been able to check that.

are there any wires actually connected to the fuse holder? if not then no radio.

you could run a fused feed from a switched 12v supply and a separate supply for the memory

As Dave suggests.....run your own wires to a switched source.....least you know it's kosher and not sharing with something it shouldn't.

Check your earths.

I found that an ageing Jeep will rust..... nobrainer now I re-read that

Certainly when not used for a bit you'll find that
things that are not working will after a wiggle of the earth wires or a turn of the screw they are connected with.

Off course a fuse in the fuse box will help

Will do. Going to trace some wires as soon as I'm able.

YJ wiring beneath the dash isn't the easiest things to get access to is it?!! Don't recall the CJ being this tight. Been awhile though, maybe it was.

hit the dash a couple of times and things start working or stop.

new wiper motor, new independent wiring, all sealed and it still is 50/50 if it will work or not

All seems pretty reliable aside from the radio and the dash indicators, either both indicate or neither. Work fine outside though.

My key/ignition barrel has worn in the TJ.
Upshot being if key isn't turned quite right you get no indicators, wipers or stereo. Everything else works fine and a quick jiggle of the key brings the above back on

That hole marked radio looks like that is where a plug goes in as part of the separate radio loom and is not a fuse holder.
If radio has ever worked it will be wired in to somewhere else i suspect, especially if it is not a factory fitment one.

Indicators wipers and stereo are all on one set of contacts in the ignition switch. When they all drop out together the switch is usually the cause.

Right, still no power to stereo. Now tried two stereos so not that.

Thought I'd trace a few wires and followed yellow to fuse box where it was clearly just sitting below the carpet not connected to anything at all (*see pic).

Where should this go and will I be able to reconnect with minimal skills...

*note odd custom toggle which seems to do nothing much at all

Rather than try to connect to the car loom, keep it simple and wire independent

Radios have two supplies, one is a switched 12v normally from a feed supplied through from the ignition. This wire on the radio is normally red with a fuse already connected.
the second is a 12v permanent supply which keeps the memory on the radio (time, stations etc)

Use a multimeter to find a supply that is only 12v when the ignition is on. Being an old jeep they should be simple to locate or just run a feed direct from the battery
