Our j33p event list is up on the forum.  Please have a look and see if there are any you fancy. We do have a few safety  rules regards equipment etc that we insist on but the main one set by our pli provider is all trucks must be mot'd.
For the seven sisters event we will be offering a small discount for birtys members, the samethat applies to our own members.  Clyro is our first event and as usual our cheapest event of the year so if anyone fancies it please pm me and ill help out as much as poss regard registering etc....

We tried our best to get around it but cost wise couldnt justify the extra expendature. You was the reason we tried to get non mot'd allowed. Insurance companies are getting a lot more picky......

Here's an idea.....if two clubs host at the same site would this help....

For example Birties and J33P who sign for the rental of .....example....Clyro.

Birties have been there before with our PLI as have J33P
So members who come to the event are  either  Birties or J33p members and as such are then covered by the appropriate club's PLI.


I'm just running of at the brain here so I don't know if this plan has legs or not.

I don't have the requirement in IOM law regulations for the MOT, so........Manx registered completely legal how does that work?

If I regestister as an agric/ forestry vehicle then apart from not being able to travel on the road unless it's from an owners land to more land owned by the person under 1.5 miles away and on road mileage does not exceed 6 miles a week then I do not need an MOT and tax is free. And the vehicle is then Agric/ forestry only......



Think this might Work?

Just spoken to a nice Welsh Girl at DVLA.

The answer is YES.......
Sect 7 of your V5c tax ........Limited Use
Sign section 8

Get a form V10 tax application from the Post office
Also form V112 MOT exception certificate plus covering letter as to what is modified usage etc.
My case......logging tractor removing deadwood from Offroad sites....... :hysterical:

Insure as limited use and send all forms off to DVLA and await return.


Ultimately you end up with a taxed(limited use) vehicle that is legally MOT except and legally insured. Vehicle has to be maintained in good condition.....(mine is)!!!
Hopefully this will meet with the PLI requirements of most clubs????????



Any feedback would be good before I press the button on this :icon_biggrin:

Funny enough I used that very scenario on the Buggy for import duty from America, top speed can not exceed 30MPH !!

Tony asked me to respond to this... MOT'd is a judgement call and not a direct PLI requirement, although I believe requiring MOT's and insurance did help us get it renewed... Briefly, regardless of whether a vehicle has an MOT or not, somebody has to examine the vehicle and give permission for it to participate in the event. If during the event, if the vehicle is involved in an accident that can be directly attributed to the vehicles construction/state then potentially the person giving permission for the vehicle to participate can be held liable.  For MOT'd vehicles there is an accepted baseline, a baseline that the vehicle must have passed in the last 12 months. For non-MOT'd there is no baseline.  This means that for non-MOT'd vehicles the person giving permission must have an extensive mechanical/engineering background (a phrase used by a couple of insurers) and be prepared to take on a lot more responsibility as they must bare the full weight of saying whether a vehicle can participate. After much thought, the bottom line is, I did not feel it fair to ask the two J33P event organisers who meet the above criteria to take on the risk, a decision borne out when I spoke to them later. I am sorry that Wildwood cannot come to J33P events, I've known him for years, our paths first crossed at one of the very early Jeepfests.

MikeC, a hopefully quick question......Just to briefly nail this and kick it into touch.....

Would this mean that if vehicle was as outlined above.......

IE Limited use age MOT except and insured and taxed.....would it still not be J33 eligible.


I don't want to go filling in forms for no future benefit.....

Or from another member of the commonweath, and as such MOT not required, I have attended J33P events in the past with no problems.

Would engineer reports not be OK, they are based more on the engineering and fabrication of a vehicle and the tester would have a much higher knowing of whats safe and whats not.
there must be some kind of service for heavily modified motors to say they are safe and sound.

Yes.....scuitineers.....  But they are trained and certificated......


To be seen at all race circuits where non MOT vehicles compete at the highest level......


But WE don't want to have to go down that route do we?????

Mine has MOT but no insurance or tax and I believe this is ok for J33P events.

I understand your feelings, but please remember the guys who run J33P (and a lot of other clubs) do it as a hobby for no gain and do not necessarily like the rules they have to work under. In the 15 years I've been involved with running events, I've seen a lot of organisers give up simply because of the expectations placed upon them. We did look at becoming MSA affiliated, but then all events would have to be competitive in nature and hence change the entire direction of J33P, plus it opened up the hole can of worms of suitably qualified scrutinisers.

Sorry, we need to establish a baseline and at the moment all we have is the MOT, so no to MOT exempt vehicles.  When I had my M201 no MOT was lawfully required, but I still got one to comply with J33P.

Unfortunately its the world we live in. Personally, if Wildwood's truck was in an accident, I know he would not hold J33P responsible. The problem is, the Joe Bloggs we don't know who decides to go down the "no win, no fee" route.  I simply believe event organisers should be exposed to as little risk as possible / plus I simply don't want the hassle.

Georgen,

I have no idea about an engineers report? If such a thing did exist, for J33P to except, the issuer would have to act as insurers for the vehicle. So I expect cost would be prohibitve. But please feel to research and report back.

Pass on "Or from another member of the commonwealth"? The only event I remember you attending was a Green Laning trip arranged by Angela which involved driving on public roads, so therefore the assumption was your vehicle was road legal, i.e. complied with UK law. Being an ex-MOT tester, you do sound the ideal person to be an event organiser. Your comments do make me think I need to change the J33P rules to read "MOT or equivalent". I seem to remember that they were talking about introducing MOTs in the IOM?
