Have 99 XJ anniversary edition, do love it but contemplating whether to keep it or not. Rear springs look flat/horizontal, creaking from back end, steering quite loose, fair bit of play and steering wheel quite a bit off centre, I'm guessing it's gonna be expensive to put right?

Not necessarily, most parts are cheap and you can straighten the steering wheel easy enough (but it might be like that cos the tracking is out and a check / adjust might be a good idea).

Rear springs, a few bushes here and thee, maybe new shocks and it'll be all tight and good to go for another few years.

Thanks guys, just to add to the fun and games the clutch has just gone today, what's that likely to cost to get replaced? Feeling sick

About a year ago I bought a clutch kit from JeepChryslerParts for just under £200 and a local garage fitted it for £230. It was the best I could find at the time

rear springs say £110 a side
creaking rear = rear dampers top bushing
steering box = £60 to £80 off ebay (current pricing)

as above for clutch, not a bad job as clutch replacement goes.

Once done you should have a good truck that will last for starship mileage and give a smile each time you press hard on the gas, then a smack by the missus for being silly

So is the gearbox removal quite an easy job, obviously the clutch has become the priority now

if your doing it yourself the main problem will be access to the bolts at the top of the bell housing due to lack of space.

installing the gearbox back on the drive line splines will either be quick or a big problem due to angle and alignment which could result in some tea breaks

Ok this clutch kit hunting is doing my head in now, these 2, same supplier, same brand, apparently both fit my Jeep, look different and nearly £200 difference in them, what am I missing???

They are probably listed by blueprint as for different model years or something but both may fit.

They have a Sachs clutch kit (which along with LuK were used as OEM) for £187.58 including VAT and delivery (delay 2-3 days as stocked in outlying location) - that's with 5% discount code DE1E6B05409089

£165 with delivery from Rock Auto, only thing is the wait till 27th Feb for it, also in their contents description does releaser mean the bearing?

Releaser = release bearing. From Sachs website "The SACHS clutch kit takes this into account by providing all relevant components that are required for clutch replacement, namely clutch pressure plate, clutch disk, and release bearing."

£158.40 less 5% using the code above - plus shipping - then add VAT on top gives the price I quoted. If you use Rockauto's UK website that I linked above you can click "add VAT to prices" so you see the total cost easier. You could also pay a whole 49p more for shipping and get it by the 25th.

If you google the sachs part number shown on rockauto you may find it with quicker availability somewhere, but no doubt a bit more expensive.

just noticed you have the cool burner, replace the thrust bearing while the box is out, cost outweighs the repeat box off later.

talk to George at the vm specialist, he will advise on the CORRECT part to fit rather than guessing if you are unsure. Not sure on his prices now as its been some years since i owned a diesel jeep

You must change the release bearing whilst it out it would be madness not too, I got a blueprint 3in1 clutch and can also confirm the top two bell housing bolts are a swine, you cant see them its all feel.
for the record when my clutch failed it was the release bearing that went then it took pressure plate out.
