WK - 6 'bings' on ignition on
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:53:37 AM »

My 2005 WK has begun making 6 bings every time I turn the ignition on. I have read that it relates to service interval but I have reset this in the EVIC but the binging continues.

Is this something that needs to be reset at the dreaded dreaded dealer or am I looking at the wrong solution?

Cheers

 :imwitstupid:

It might be worth scanning codes if you are worried. Or maybe just ignoring it and getting used to the bings, there are plenty of them that I have tuned out in my head  :lol_hitting:

Funny this should come up...my KJ used to do the same thing and after a lot of searching, I found out (from another Jeep forum) that it was normal and was the system saying 'wait a bit while I run my pre start scan' and glowplug cycle. I didn't really believe that, but if I tried to start while it was chiming, it would wind over for 4 or 5 seconds and then catch...if I waited for the chiming to stop, it would fire up straight away, even at minus 25 degrees (C).

No idea if this has any relevence to the WK.

Could it just be the seat belt reminder chimes? I think it was introduced to all Jeeps around 96/97. Try fastening the seat belt before turning the ignition on and see if there are still chimes.

I was thinking you can stop those chimes by just disconnecting the switch, but looking more I think the switch is needed so the seat belt tensioners will work if in an accident. Best leave it connected.

Wise words - if it aint broke, it soon will be by fucking around with it.
