Just knocked one of the metal tags off the screen element. Can anyone tell me if there's a particular type of adhesive I'm best using to refix it. Thanks

I used silver conductive paint, just a few months ago, to repair the two large rear window demisters on my Nissan Patrol...all working fine now.

If you have completely knocked the terminal tab off, the first thing is to glue it back on with Locktite Gel (superglue), wait a few hours and then use the paint to get a good contact with the grid lines. I would paint the exposed part of the tab and make sure it makes a good contact with everything it should....it's a fiddly job, but if you take your time, it will work. Secret hint...shake the shit out of the little bottle of paint to mix the particles of silver before you apply it. My demister had more than 60 gaps (thanks to previous owners little dog), but I got there eventually.


Meant to say...the paint cost me about 8 quid and I used less than half the bottle...get yourself a very fine artists brush first.

The tabs are glued in place with a conductive epoxy resin. I've not opened the link above but as it has the word glue in it it's probably the sort of thing you are looking for.

The photos in that link shows how I repaired my element gaps....dont know how good it would be to re attach the terminal, which is why I suggested the superglue...once the terminal is back in place, it's an easy task to link it with the element using the conductive paint.

Thanks for that guys. As I'd just pulled the tab off I was hoping to find a conductive adhesive just to glue it back again as JJ suggested. The only ones I've found are either not rated for the amount of current, or simply don't work according to user reviews. The kit in the link appears to have just one bottle containing the element repair, so don't think that's what I need. Think I may be headed down Bazz's suggested route, although I'm not the neatest at using a fine art brush. BTW Bazz, do you recall the product name of the stuff you used. Thanks

My original suggestion involving the superglue (or the stuff used to stick your interior mirror back on the windscreen) will work fine to re attach the terminal to its original position.

I just went out to my garage and located the conductive paint that I used ...Gaz picked this up for me, some months ago, but the barcode/part number reads W033 N3 6BA....maybe he can remember where he got it from.

I'm happy to take some pics tomorrow morning to help you get the idea...just give me a nod.

It worked for me and there is no reason it won't solve your problem....the artists brush thing is nothing to worry about.

At the risk of stating the obvious, use some masking tape to mask the window etc where you don't want to get conductive paint - same goes for when you repair the lines across the screen if you have any that need doing.

The method described by Bazz works well, used it many times myself on customers cars as well as my own.

...the only thing I can add to the recipe, is don't be in too much of a hurry to turn the heat on to try it out!! Give it a good chance to dry and set first...even after some help with the hair dryer.

I used black insulation tape because it made it easier to visually line up the element lines and edges....I left the tape on for a couple of hours after applying the paint and gave the area a few wafts with the dryer during that time(from the outside of the glass, not directly onto the paint).

Hope it all works for you...remember to shake that little bottle really well and often!
