Going to be having a foray offroad in the near future so I`m looking for a set of new boots all round. Preferably a half and half as the old bus will admittedly spend most of her life on the black stuff.
Any recommendations?

235 x 75 R15 M/Ts.. road noise is not worth bothering about visually ie poseur they do the bizz Go on you know you want to....and off road :lol:

I'd say BFG's but others will say other brands...

Yes, its an XJ. I`m not really bothered what it looks like as long as it can deal with mud (it`s all there ever is up here) and isn`t a nightmare on the road. :roll:

I've got BFG 235/75 muds on me cherry and they're bloody good - amazing what a stock XJ will do (pic of stock cherry and muds in my gallery). Can't agree about the noise though. The eagles that come as standard are almost silent, the muds whirr loudly by comparison. But then I have a WJ for driving on the road :lol:

Oh, check how shagged your rear springs are. 235s with nacked springs are very close to the arches.

The rear springs look like new.Its done a genuine 28k miles and has never worked or had a towbar fitted. The tyres on it now are 225/75/15s but my mates 95XJ has 225/70/15s and look noticeably a little smaller. Whats the correct profile or are they both right?
Mines a 99 by the way (thats the one with a flake)

I was running BFG mt`s on my old Toyota and i didnt find them too bad on the road,except trying to corner in the wet as they could be a little skittish then.Noise was present but after a while you get used to it

Oh yes, forgot about the wet! These tyres are not good in on the road in the wet. I scared myself on a busy roundabout in the wet trying to pull out quick in 2WD - lots of revs, but not much actual movement. Stick to 4WD on these tyres. Corners can also be fun.

Here I go again, but the Cooper Discoverer STT's are great on and off-road. I've had mine on since August and haven't had a 'moment' on wet roads yet.

i run bfg muds all the time on my xj & to be honest, always have even before the lift, etc......

cant recommend em highly enough, you do get used to their road manners or lack of em!!

If you don't mind digging deep procomp x-terrains, I've had mine on since december and they are superb onroad wet/dry/snow and I do give it some serious stick. They are also very quiet.

Think mine where about £120 a corner, but in mind mind well worth it.

Just a thought, but if you're gonna do some froadin' has your XJ got the radiator, transfer case and fuel tank skids?
