YJ Parabolic rear springs on a CJ?
« on: August 14, 2018, 10:44:54 AM »

Anybody tried this? (USA sites say it is easy and improves the ride?)

My springs and bushes etc. are 40 years / 98,000 miles old......

I could get some new Crown ones from Lighthouse for £150 each or I could get a lift kit, but I don't really need a lift...

Anybody got some so I could give it a try?

Tried a lift on the YJ ....now,the 1 Tonne....
Rubicon Express.  2 1/2 " lift .....it was good and great articulation
Then went 4 1/2 for larger tyres.....also great....l
Sold them both when doing SOA with 1 tonne axles on the YJ
Used Crown from Lighties HD rears on all 4 corners
Works well and supports the weight of 1 ton axles and 40" tyres no prob

Sorry don't have any to loan.

Just to be clear, if anybody has (or knows of...) some standard YJ parabolics lying around I will pay money for them.....

(unless somebody tells me its not worth doing?)

I have now been told that standard TJ ride height is lower than CJ, so putting stock YJ rears on will not really work...

Can anybody confirm this?

who told you that Jonny? i too am looking into this plan for my cj7 which also "sports" old tired oe springs - i too do not want a massive lift (it wont fit in my garage if i go much higher than stock!)

it does make sense as the only yj spring conversions for cj i have seen seem to feature yj +2/2.5" springs - i guess if the stock yj spring is indeed softer it would let your cj7 sit lower hence the extra ride height version being best suited for cj7s.

If I remember correctly....
YJ rear shackles have the top bolt through the çhassis ....half way up...
CJ rear shackles are held by a bracket riveted to the bottom of the çhassis

Therefore....

YJ springs on a CJ will have maybe an inch more lift at the rear than when on a YJ...
