Floor gear change for CJ7 auto
«
on:

With a V8 swap at some point, the column change will most likely be removed as the linkage stands a fair chance of fouling the engine.
any ideas on a kit swap to a floor mounted gear change that will suit the TH400. I gather a box will need to be constructed to lift it slightly off the tunnel to aid in reaching the shifter from the drivers driving position
it appears to be a bit of a minefield for choices so any advice would help.
I don't want a ratchet style gear change either.

One of the ones with a ratchet shift to avoid slipping into reverse.....
The smooth Hotrod style with a button on top to look like a manual shift are an accident waiting to happen Offroad.
Also you now have the chance to get a 'shift kit' to either have the box fully manual or semi manual or reconfigure the shift pattern so reverse and first are opposite each other for rock in' and rollin' your way out of the cack....
Happy days.....

Yup hence the minefield for options.
Conventional style is preferred with gear locks so no accidental gear changes like the column change.
Didnt realise you could program a gear selection as you imply

Trans-go are worth a look . They are the boys that do loads of stuff to upgrade your TH400,harden up the shift points .....change the shift pattern etc.
Tis a minefield ..... :hysterical:but a good way to spend an hour or two

Thanks Jez...looks pretty good to me. My VW Golf is the bog standard silver and my summer wheels are alloys, done in a very similar shade...boring!!
Luckily, they don't salt our roads during winter, so we don't have a problem with the 'wormy' stuff. I just want to achieve a decent contrast...was tossing up going for the gloss black, but I think a bright silver might look better.
I'm open to suggestions...the wheels are in really good condition, so only need a little bit of prep for painting. I did a similar job on the KJ and it turned out really well (10 wheels) and they are still going strong.

awgrip 545 is marine spec paint so wont fade, downside is the metal underneath may rot out first.
at least once painted, an mud will just wash off

Cheers mate...you guys have all the good stuff over there, expensive to buy and very difficult (and even more expensive to have delivered) to find over here. I managed to locate some dedicated alloy wheel paint locally, so I'll give that a try...still mulling over the colour at the moment.
