single cd player

Our TJ has a Kenwood multi disc system at present ,which has given up at the weekend. :?:  will i need adaptors for the loom  :wink:

I believe Jeep changed the radio wiring looms in Jeeps sometime during 2001, so any newer Jeep / Chrysler radios won't easily connect to the earlier models, without some conversion leads.

If you have a Kenwood fitted, the chances are you will have some cables converting the Jeep loom to take an ISO radio.  If that is the case, then you can replace your radio with practicaly anything available over the counter at any car hifi shop, inc Halfords.

Assuming you have an autochanger, which bit has broken? If it's just the head unit, get a Kenwood single CD with autochanger capability and you can have the best of both worlds.

its the autochanger thats knackered, not keen on it anyway as it sits under the passenger seat bouncing around. A single disc would be much better.

Will pull the head unit tonight and see if i have an adaptor to the original loom or see if has been codged  :?

If so Ivans advice is good and i will also look at that Sony unit recommended by prozac.

Check it's RDS, it's a real PITA if you have to re-tune when travelling...

The Sony is RDS and most importantly MP3 so I can get about 13hours of music on a single cd.....PAH to multichangers!!! It's also fairly 'toned down' so it doesn't have a multitude of flashing displays, it's almost subtle!!!

If you're into making your own CDs, then perhaps you'd be better off with one that can do WMA too - the same quality at a lower bitrate, or to you 'normals' more music on a cd, over 16 hours. My old Panasonic supported it.

Better still get an Alpine unit with iPod capability through Ai-Net or built in and have 30GB of music to sift through whilst driving  :idea:

Need an iPod as well though  :roll:  But I wouldn't go back to CDs now.

Better yet get a 60gb ipod  :D  :D

I just use a tape adaptor and the belkin charge kit. sounds ok, not great but it drowns out the tyre noise... i keep the volume on the belkin down and amplify using the head unit.

Yup multi changers are so yesterday!
You can pick up a fairly decent single CD unit that does MP3s etc for much cheapness.
The good thing about MP3 players is the they don't suffer from the normal CD jumps etc as the buffer can smooth it out.

I usually have mine playing while froading, and it has not skipped yet.
cheapest mp3 JVC oota halfords...... and a big amp.

But seriously, Steve, if you're not looking for eleventy million thousand songs in your truck then the sony sounds fine. I'd certainly not pay more than that. The most important consideration would be whether the backlighting matches your nighttime illumination.

I have a casette adaptor in the jeep and plug my ipaq into it... 2Gb Music and it turns off for "Jane" to tell me where to go too..... It only has a few hours battery life and has to be plugged in anyway, so a second plug ain't a problem.

Stew and bubba stop reading here....

2Gb will give you 400 songs or more (that's 5Mb / file which allows for 192 bit rate. Go to WMA and you can get nearer 600 :) )
