Sounds like it could  be the LSD.

The first thing I'd do is change the oil in the rear diff and add some friction modifier.  (You can get it from a dealers).  You'll need to remove the diff cover to drain it, there isn't a drain plug.  Check to see if there's any bits of metal in the bottom of the diff housing once it's empty.
Pop the cover back on (seal it with RTV sealant) and fill it up through the rubber bumg in the cover. don't forget the modifier. Do some figure eights in  car park once it's done to mix it properly and to check to see if you've still got a problem.

If that don't fix it you may need a new clutch pack.

If it does turn out to be the LSD then I can recommend Mik Stansfield.

Not sure what oil you need in the diffs with an LSD.  One of the other guys should be able to tell ya.  Failing that take a look in the owners manual (if you've got one).

You may as well go to a dealers for the friction modifier, t'is one of the only things that isn't expensive from them and you don't have to wait for it to be delivered.

I'd go with all the suggestions so far, I just have a query - Are you sure it's a 4.2 because I'm pretty certain the AMC 4.2 never went in any cherokees, was it fitted by a previous owner??

Hi people an update of work carried out so far . . . . . . . .

rear diff re done still same . . . ? ? ?

Front diff checked for oil levels however all ok with oil levels so not altered . . . .

Got hold of every greese nipple in site cleaned area an re greesed . . . .

So my dear dear new found friends "nod nod wink wink" i Have still therefore got a creaking bordering on judering when turning right . . . . . however only when foot on gas and not freewheeling  . . . . . . in both 2 & 4wd . . . . . also when moveing off from holding on break . . . . .

no cracking when parking or 3 p turn now,  so ill put that down to simply regreecing . . . . .

If theres nothing else you can think of other than the clutch pack that "chrisjoanes" mentiond in one of the first posts . . . . . .is it doerble yourself and what happens if you dont do it . . . . . asuming it is that. . . . . . any ideas please ? ? ? pretty please . . . .

Cheers for now . . . . . Plum . . . . . .

did you drive a few tight "figure of 8"'s after you refilled the diff?

this works the additive into the clutch packs,

it can take a while for the stuff to work its magic if it hasnt been done for a while.....
