« on: July 31, 2006, 09:14:12 PM »

Right guys and gals,im after your opinion.I have a bit of paypal cash from some items i have sold on Ebay, and im considering a new mod to my CJ.I am torn between one piece shafts and rear lockers. Not only do i want your advice as to which one would benefit me most but also some preferences on types.Looking at reasonably priced ones though so no suggestions of ARB as i just cant afford them

Get the axles first if ya gonna get a locker.  If you get the locker first you'll only bust the stock axles anyway.
As for lockers.  Bubba seems to do OK with the lockrights.  Aussie lockers get good reviews too.

It should be an AMC20 which is said to be a good axle apart from the shafts. I suppose the first step should be one piece axles especially considering the 33s and that engine.

With regards to the locker wait 'til i'm up and running and see what you think. I have front and rear Powertrax NoSlip fitted.

If you've got the AMC 20 rear axle(diff casing is round), then I'm suprised you haven't already bust the axle shaft as the hub is pressed on, your 401 would have soon taken care of that and your heavy foot. You know the man you need to ask.

Are you sure you've still got two piece shafts, coz the guy who fitted my 360 v8 bust 2 shafts before changing the axle, and that was on 31's.

Try Randy's Ring and Pinion, they do nearly everything.

I've used a guy there called Brook Hilton, really helpful and will get you prices by e-mail if you get the ref. no. from the website.

IMHO - Go one piece shafts, there supposed to be stronger and they're new and shiny, I don't hold much hope for old, stock shafts and 401 power. It might be fun just to break them before you make the change

Humbly suggest you check the shipping price, seems too cheap to me - plus dont forget to factor in 27% combined VAT and import duty (on parts and shipping !)

I also recommend Randys, emailed them from the UK and placed order, they shipped to the villa I was staying at in Florida - shipping for a ring & pinion to the UK was $200.00 - to the villa $22.00
