Looking at uprating a TJ's rear drums to discs. Any advice greatly apreciated....

What sort of price are we looking at for a conversion? Is it possible to convert without a kit?

I know the V8 Grands use a D44 rear axle and they're disk braked.

Don't know if it's a direct swap though and even if it is, they still have a drum brake for the hand brake................so it's still crap.

don't fit the ones that have the stupid little hand brake shoes inside the disc as they have a habit to self destruct........

Just followed a link above and i can see what you mean! It is sort of an half baked go at really sorting the rear brakes out. Go to all the trouble getting disc's on and then using shoes for the e brake...BAH!

If I dare mention his name my CJ has a MDG disc conversion.

It does not have a drum handbrake.It may be worth giving him a ring.

I've got a complete SSBC kit sitting at Steve's (FTE) bought and paid for (and have done for over a year!), just gotta get around to having it fitted - seem to remember your looking at about a grand all in supplied and fitted

Still trying to decide which vehicles to keep and which to sell, trouble is I keep seeing new ones that I like (ETJ's Zuk for example)

Think I'll keep the Disco for work, Tombraider to cart the kids around in (especially as wifey has now bought a Cooper with only 4 seats in !!!!) and the (insert TJ or FJ here) for playing in

yes..........had that on a previous wrangler performed very well.......i would recommend it for tyres up to 33"

Looks to be similar to FTE's kit, however, I know Steve modifies his to put the callipers on top of the axle instead of underneath and I believe he also includes an uprated brake master cylinder

Dont know ! - I spoke to Steve earlier, he said his kit is based on the SSBC one with the addition of the master cylinder and different handbrake cables which allows the calipers to be in the correct place, this makes bleeding a lot easier - price is kit plus a days labour - about £1k
