Three more problems, steering, tranny & ignition
« on: October 10, 2006, 09:49:58 AM »

Hi Folks,

after a year my Grand Cherokee has decided to turn into a Lada with the amount of bother I'm having all at once.

First one, power steering has decided to cut out now and again, generally at low speed -- not ideal on windey, single track roads in the Highlands :(

Next, the ignition is being a pain. It starts with a bit of effort but will not idle, there's a strong petrol smell from the exhaust too. If you rev the engine for a few minutes until the engine gets warm then it's ok.

Finally, the transmission is taking a really long time to change up, for example it goes to about 4500rpm+ on an acceleration to 50mph.

Any advice, as usual, much appreciated.

Cheers,

Stuart

For the power steering check the belt tension. Are you getting normal charging volts on the alternator?

For the second two I'd suspect the TPS first. Could also be the IAC motor assembly covered in muck.

Stu.
