Air scoops
« on: October 26, 2006, 12:34:40 AM »

Have a heat problem with my XJ, a mate of mine said to reduce the temp under the bonnet to stick some slats, or air scoops on it!
She doesnt overheat, just gets very hot on a long run. Had her presure tested and its all good!
So will the airscoop thing work or is it bollocks, before I go cutting big holes in me bonnet!

An air scoop ain't gonna do much good really (it's a Jeep, not an Impreza   ), but louvres do. Have a look in Dr. Mikes personal album at http://http://www.birtydastardsjeepclub.com/forum/album_personal.php?user_id=14 where he's done the deed. He might be along soon to advise.
You can get louvre vents from your local boy racer/stick on tat shop.

Just search for VENTS on ebay. I bought a Landy (AAAAHHHHH NOOOOO) wing vent of ebay for 3 quid shipped. It has made a noticeable difference on the gauge and the vent is only small.

Think of it like this, drive down the road and put a platic cup out the window now punch a hole in the bottom. Same idea as the XJ's engine bay is filled to capacity with crap and there's not alot of air movement.

I had an XJ orvis and cut the vents out, I then found that whilst wading the shit came up through vents and over the windscreen. Nice look.
