Keeping it up....
« on: November 04, 2006, 11:00:50 AM »

I have a bike rack I want to keep on the back pretty much permenently, only problem I have is it makes the tailgate just a little to heavy for the rams to keep up.
Can you get stronger ones at all??

if you maybe measure the ones that are on and get to a local scrapyard and see if you can find some thicker ones that will fit the same space or even make up some kinda brackets to double em up. 8)

Give these guys a go.

You may need to compromise on tailgate lifting efficiency with the bikes on and off the rack but they should be able to sort you out once you've given them the info they need.
Don't forget though, that you are now intending to put a lot more load through the end brackets than they were designed for, so you may have to beef them up before they break and drop the whole affair on your head!
Good luck.
