oil gauge

hi my oil gauge is dropping below 0 as if no power,its ok when starting up and stays mid dial then about 15/20 mins drivig straght off the gauge no oil light so i just drive on.
any ideas...also still looking for a track bar......

If you are sure that you have oil pressure, it could be just the sensor.  Try some engine flush and an oil change that sometimes sorts it out.  Else it could be a new sensor.

Mine did that, it was the sender. Replaced it during the last service and no more problems.

99% gauranteed the sender is shot.

the other thing that the sender does is go the opposite way, it will show a pressure then the needle will go fully to the right, usually a failure of an internal part of the sender. they either last along time or fail quickly

on a diesel the sender is right above the oil filter. on a petrol errr i cant remember, well i'll have a look when i get home. they are not std with other cars and not metric, but they are a taper thread.

The petrol ones are next to the oil filter. Diesel could be in one of 3 places. Originally, under the rear on the inlet manifold. Impossible to get at. Modified, on adaptor next to oil filter, ok to get at. Latest version onder middle of inlet manifold, hard to get at.

Hope you took note of that bit about the sender being a TAPER THREAD because that means that if you crank it too far into it's boss you'll break/crack the casting and that could really spoil a persons' day!
Moral of the story: - Be careful not to overtorque the sender when you refit it.
