« on: July 25, 2007, 08:17:38 PM »

sorry Im here again for info :)

We were wondering what lift do you need for 35" tyres?

Also where do we get a set of 15 x 10 off set wheels?

Thanx Helen

Its back spacing  to make the Tj wide

As for gearing we never gave it a thought   ...would we have to do this wi 33s?
we are planning a 2" Susp  and 2" body

3.75 back spacing should be enough (you will also need to put bigger wheel arch extension on) as for gearing of course this will have to be put to the correct r&p, and with 35" tyres a lot of strength added to the drive line, 33" tyre (will require 4.56 r&p) is a much more cost affective option.

if you fit 33" tyres without r&p you can forget fifth gear and will struggle on long hills fuel economy (what little a wrangler has ) will suffer also.

Mik for the re-gear, he posts on here and will tell you costs, drop him a pm

I have Tj with 2" teraflex and 1" body lift, running 31's but 33@ will fit under nicely but cant afford the re-gear just yet

also have a Tj with 2" emu lift, no body lift and running 31@s, 33's no chance

If you have made your mind up to go straight to 33's its going to cost, i would go 31's and then go from there. A Tj on 31's can do some suprising stuff.

  already got 31s on ...we just put them on they rub on jeep on full lock its terriable to park.

my other half, the one who loves the jeep has a company van and only drives the jeep on a sunday.... I am the one who has got to drive it to work every day   i dont want 35s on at all and will put up with 33s if we make it wider as well as taller. It will do a bit of off road but nothing to damage it (I hope) as i need it every day.

we both do the maintenance on the jeep that is why its always me who asks the questions.
he just makes wish lists  lol

you can stop the 31's rubbing by putting a few washers in the steering stops. easy fix

i would fit a 2" lift and a small body lift and be done with it, no re-gear costs and stick with your 31's. Fairly capable if you want to go off-road and ok on the road as a daily driver.

The 2" lift will give the tyres plenty of room to move and fit disconnects for the front sway bar so the axle can move more off road,

As you dont off-road much you can grow with the truck and then if you want more you can go for it

if its a daily and ya wanna go 33,s you gotta go to at least 4.11 gears therefore you need new gear carriers therefore you might as well go for truetrax or lockers. 33,s wont happily fit on stock tj rims so ya need wheels. i recon you need at least 3inch of lift and stick with 1inch body lift as you can get issues with 2inch (steering?) if ya gonna go wider you need to cover tyres or pc plod will moan at ya so flares will need doin. how ever you do it it aint cheap but if you want to do it just go for it. hey its only money and ya cant take it with ya. 8)

sye  £600 ish
ford 8.8 rear axle  £350 ish from GT 4X4
new prop shafts  too scared to ask
re gear   to scared to think about
lockers   cant bear to think about

to stop the tyre rubbing problem simply adjust the lock stop bolts out slightly both sides and hey presto as its an auto do the fit the wheels and tyres see how you get on as the autos are slightly lower geared then the manuals but it would  seem from the use it gets it would be far cheaper to simply get some nice wheels stay at 31s and buy a cheap cj for the other half and v8that cjs are very modable fairly cheaply and simpler to go monster with
