OK so I have only had the Cherokee a week; so far fitted full leather to replace slightly tatty cloth, replaced n/s headlight - the reflector had gone. Found out why when it was off, the rubber boot was missing! Anyway breaker to the rescue and I now have two shiny headlights!  

One gripe though, I know it's 12 years old but low mileage and no rust on its bottom or anywhere else, so why are all the fixing screws seized solid - two on the front seats, which a local engineering company drilled out - they were too hard for my little drill; and the two that hold the indicator box in place - had to drill around these, fill the holes and new screws - never know there had been a problem but I just hope that seized bits will not happen every time I want to do something.

Not pleased with local dealer - ordered new rear wiper - they supplied new style but it wouldn't fit (obvious) took it down there and they removed the old wiper blade plastic end and jammed the new blade on; problem is the "set" of the blade is wrong so only the edge nearest the drive touches the screen and the washer pipe cannot be attached where it should go as it fouls the blade - anyone know a workround?  It will certainly never go back to Chryler Jeep.

Did you buy the whole assembly or just the wiper? You can get wipers from any motor factors or shop. They're pretty cheap in Tesco too.

It will certainly never go back to Chrysler Jeep.

The vehicle may not, but there are a few bits and pieces that you either need from the dealer, or are actually cheap.

I just purchased the blade assembly - the old one had a pin onto which the blade fitted held in by a spring moved by a screw (cam like thing) on the blade itself.  Because of this the blade sat above the arm which keft room for the washer jet.

Yep, sounds right, I got a 95 XJ too. I got my wiper from the local factors. After much frowning and scratching of heads, the blade did come with the right fitting to put it on an XJ.

Penetrating fluid for disassembly and copper-ease for re-assembly will make life easier. Generally I use these on every Jeep job

I have a 95 XJ - I've invested in a lot of penetrating oil.

Everything is seized and you get good at drilling out - until you need to drill out a broken drill bit

At the moment I'm fighting with the tie rod while trying to reset the tracking after a lift.  Been spraying for 2 days now - will give it another go this weekend :?

Get a MAPP torch. Applying a little heat in the right place works wonders.

Like James says, PB Blaster on everything you remove. Clean the bolts with petrol, then Copper grease on everything you put pack.

never had any probs with jeep nuts seizing even on my 94 xj,
as soon as I buy a 4x4 I go under coat up all nuts with wd40 that I may have to take off, every day for first week.
works, doesn't always work on land rovers though,

Thanks for all the feedback - I use WD40 but also recommend Rostoff & Roastoff ice - these are trade products from Wurth and are great when you really have a tough one to sort out, as for copper grease, use it all the time - makes your hair gold!
