why do you need a lowering kit ?
ref mk1 jeep.
the std suspension is crap and soft for handling purposes, buy a decent set of suspension and the vehicle is transformed. even with my 3.5" R.E lift the handling has changed considerably. i drive the jeep at times like a sports car (old job test driver) and it only understeers when pushed hard (rwd), alot more traction and still some understeer with 4wd.
lowering the jeep will help a bit but will not turn it into a sports car. how much you want to drop might have problems of clearance underneath and a change of tyres or even wheels (additional cost) might be needed. rear leaf springs might have to be custom made or sourced from the states and the ride just might be too hard and look daft.
not voicing an opinion either way but giving possible ideas
IMHO replace the suspension from the std and drive in 4wd will make it more sure footed
