HI all can anyone enlighten me as a newish jeep owner I find that the handling is not what I would expect from a Jeep the problem that I find is it wallows about, seems to loose road holding over the smallest of pot holes /road joints or uneven patches of tarmac it has only done 62000 mls never been off road ,underside looks and feels to have no loose bushes etc is it the normal feeling when driving these Jeeps to feel that it is ready to breakaway on the backend at the slightest bump ,it is an SE model regds Steve

it's probably a combination of tyres and old springs. the springs on these do sag after time and end up all wallowy and with worn tyres it doesn't help much. If you phone LIGHTHOUSE jeep they can sell you the diesel spec leaf springs which do give a slightly firmer ride and a higher stance which compensates the sag after a time

If the back end was stiff for some reason - shocks or hard springs, this would happen. Also to much air in the tyres or just crap tyres.

What handling would you exect from a Jeep?

You mention "wallowing" as the Jeep has a higher center of gravity and long travel soft suspension (compared to 'normal' road cars) then it will be more "wallowy" than a 'normal' car.

What sizes are your tyres? From a quick look on Goodyear website the GT+4's appear to be 'sports' car tyres and the "Eagle GA is made to bring out the best performance in the world's finest touring sedans" so neither tyre would appear to be too suitable for a Jeep Cherokee.....

The Eagle GAs are factory standard on the Cherokee, but the GT+4 might not be the best choice.

that's what was on It when I had it and they were almost new granted the old fella who owned it only did around 14 miles per day to and from work hence 62000 one owner never raced or rallied , perhaps I had better go out an buy a flat cap and a cravat or could someone recommend a tyre that would suit mostly road use except for when I launch and recover my boat that weighs about 1.5 tonnes alup but that is on hard slips not sand or mud . hope someone can help regards Steve

just remember you can't drive these like your avaerage mondeo/family car. have a look at an all terrain tyre, it should provide you with the grip and the road handling but the downside is that your might get tyre whine but that whine varies from make to make
