What are breathers or wading kits? and why are they needed?

It's not only the engine that needs to breathe. Breathers are placed on things that heat up to allow the oil to expand. Diffs and gearboxes commonly have breathers.

some folk move or extend the axle and gearbox breathers into the airbox. the axle breathers are pretty high up on the motor to be honest. the breathers can allow water and stuff into the box or axles so some folk move em.  aint moved mine and it has never caused me a problem. the secret to all froading is stayin on top of maintenance issues. check the diff oils check the gearbox and transfer box oils. grease you uj's if you have greasable ones ans all the other grease nipples. stay on top of it all and ya should spot most problems before they arise. unless ya break stuff that is 8-)
